He walks through the door, beaming. “Did you see it?”
I laugh at the elated expression on his face. “Of course I did. You’re a natural.”
“What’s this?” he says, picking up the elaborately wrapped gift.
“Just a little something for the new TV star.”
“Aww, babe, you didn’t have to do that.”
“I did. Open it.”
He slowly tears at the paper. My stomach twists in anticipation. He opens the box and removes the tissue paper. He stares at it a moment and tears spring to his eyes. He looks at me.
“Are you serious?” he says, then he picks up the pregnancy test with the positive sign on the front and examines it closer.
“I went to the Hope Center after I took the test at home and confirmed it.”
He starts to cry and laugh at the same time. Scooping me into his arms he twirls me around the room. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” I tell him.
I never imagined this kind of life, with the guy who I thought was just a big dumb fuck and a one-night stand. But it’s better than any life I could possibly have imagined.
