“Yeah, I’m great,” I replied, smiling up at him. “Just feeling happy.”

He smiled back at me. “I am too.”

Jackson wrapped his arm around me and we watched the delivery men work.

“What do you think?” I asked him. “Do you think this one will hold?”

He barked out a laugh. “That was Caleb’s fault both times!”

“It most certainly was not!” Caleb said from behind us.

We turned around to look at him.

We wore an exasperated expression, like he was so done with us jokesters.

Pointing a finger at Jackson, Caleb said, “I’m not the one built like an elephant. You weigh at least twice as much as I do, Jackson!”

Jackson rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, man.”

I shrugged. “I’m not complaining,” I said. “I like the feel of you pressing me down into the bed.”

This time Caleb rolled his eyes. “You’re both so weird.”

As the three of us stood there, watching our future bed built right before our eyes, I took their hands in mine, knowing we were going to be okay.
